The term Lakawon is derived from a Cebuano word lakaw, meaning “to walk”. The island may have gotten its name because during low tide, one can literally walk or wade a long distance to or from the main island. Lakawon is 48 kilometres (30 mi) north of Bacolod City, the provincial capital. The island is accessible from the coast of Barangay Cadiz Viejo via a 20-minute boat ride.
It’s white sand beach can rival that of Boracay, a popular island resort off the coast of Aklan in Panay.
On December 1, 2019, an openwater swim is going to happen again in the island. It’s time to go back to the island and enjoy its white sand and the Cadiznon hospitality.
Registration is now open for the 2.5 K and 5K. This will close on March 1, 2020 or earlier, until slots are available.
Registration fee for the 2.5K and 5K is at P2,500 which entitles the participant to race entry, swim cap and a finisher medal . Choose from the different registration package and get a finisher short, towel and/or trucker cap
